Draft — this is a structural skeleton, not documentation. Most pages are empty stubs listing what they will cover. Nothing here is finished, and some of it describes parts of Baseout that are not built yet.

Retention and cleanup

The cleanup schedule is the only thing in Baseout that removes backed-up data. It is a rolling, tiered retention policy that progressively thins older versions so storage does not grow without limit, with a configurable cutoff.

This page will explain how the tiers work, what “thinning” keeps and drops, and how to check what would be removed before it is.

  • What does the retention policy keep — dailies, weeklies, monthlies?
  • How do I change the cutoff, and what is the default?
  • Can I exempt a specific backup from cleanup?
  • If I delete a run in the UI, is the data gone? (No — runs are not deletable.)
  • What happens to my backups if I cancel my account?

The last question above has no answer anywhere in the product or the specs — it needs a decision before it can be documented.
